Schools receive a Pupil Premium Grant to benefit those children who are registered as eligible for free school meals at any point in the last 6 years or those who are looked after, who might otherwise be disadvantaged in their learning.
The pupil premium is used to raise the attainment of these children and close the gap between them and their peers. Head teachers and school leaders can decide how to use the Pupil Premium, although they are held accountable for how they have used the funding to support pupils.
Children at Oakthorpe consistently achieve better than national average, and although children eligible for Pupil Premium achieve better than other Pupil Premium children nationally, they do not achieve as well as those who are not eligible.
We are aiming to narrow and even remove this gap. A high profile is given to pupils eligible for Pupil Premium and all staff are accountable for their progress. We make careful use of data and draw on educational research in deciding how best to accelerate the progress of Pupil Premium children and increase their opportunities. The main areas addressed through the funding are:
- Learning and the Curriculum
- Parents and Families
- Social and Emotional Support
- Enrichment within and beyond the curriculum
